Abstract

Summary: A CT-based simulation method was tested against implant placements in 16 cadaveric hips to determine how anatomy and implant size constrain achievable femoral head positions. Predicted placements agreed with experimental measurements to within 1.9 ± 0.5 mm. The available positioning range was greater in the anterior–posterior direction than in the medial–lateral direction and increased with superior stem seating. Mapping these ranges can support patient-specific implant selection and comparisons of implant designs.
